  • EU testing way to use Sun to break up plastics in wastewater

  Nov 07, 2017: Harnessing the Sun’s radiation to help rid the oceans of microplastic contamination is one of several technical innovations to be developed by a new EU-funded project. Beginning in November 2017, a system developed at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden for breaking down microplastics from personal care products will be tested for implementation in homes and wastewater treatment plants.

  • CLAIM beviljas 60 MSEK i projektstöd

  19 olika parter inom EU ska under de fyra kommande åren samarbeta kring projektet CLAIM, (Cleaning Litter by developing and Applying Innovative Methods in european seas), vilket syftar till att finna lösningar för att rena vatten från mikroplaster innan de når havet.

  Projektet vilket helt nyligen beviljades närmare 6 miljoner euro av H2020, tar sin början under hösten 2017. Det leds av det grekiska centret för marin forskning.

  Från Sverige deltar PP Polymer. Företaget ska arbeta med att verifiera om den fotokatalytiska process som KTH, under ledning av professor Joydeep Dutta, tagit fram fungerar. Professor Dutta är chef för Institutionen för funktionella material på avdelningen för tillämpad fysik på SCI i Kista.

  Scientists from The Research Council Chair in Nanotechnology at Sultan Qaboos University have got patent registration for their invention of nanostructured zinc oxide membranes for separating oil from oil-water mixture. Joydeep Dutta, former chair in nanotechnology, and Myo Tay Zar Myint, laboratory applications specialist at the SQU College of Science, have registered for the invention in the US patent office.
