Abstract

In this talk I will make a condensed summary of some research projects we have been involved in over the years by starting out from the component level with diffractive optical elements (DOEs), over to micromachining techniques and replication in polymer materials, describe a few attempts for assembly of microsystems targeted for lab-on-a-chip applications, and finally move into where we stand today - photonics for the life sciences. This talk will include topics such as micro-optics, microfluidics, nanocrystalline diamond, quantum cascade lasers, biomarkers and Alzheimer's disease.
