Abstract: The development of the visual system although beginning prenatally continues throughout childhood. Neuronal migration, cellular changes as well as synaptic connections contribute to the visual development. However, assessing visual function in children is challenging. Optical coherence tomography is a promising clinical tool that visualizes the retinal nerve fiber layer. Normal visual development and new insights will be presented.
