Titel: Evanescent mid-IR spectroscopy, diamond waveguides and neuroscience - work in progress towards clinical studies

Abstract:

Diamond has emerged as a suitable material for IR photonics, quantum computing, sensors, and biomedicine. In this talk I will review our ongoing efforts in developing highly sensitive and specific analysis tools utilizing evanescent mid-IR spectroscopy and microfabricated diamond waveguides. Such tools may be used to study protein aggregation in pathological processes leading to Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease. Some of the planned activities by the technical and medical faculties at Uppsala University for starting research collaborations and education programs in medical technology will also be discussed.
